The Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM), founded in 1949 is the oldest and most prominent state University in the Republic of Macedonia, ranked as a top University in the country by ARWU ranking. The University is a community of 23 faculties, 5 research institutes and 11 accompanying members. Faculty of Architecture, UKIM with more than 65 years of experience in education, research and application of knowledge in the field of architecture, urban planning, building technologies, architectural history and theory provides a wide teaching and research platform. It founds its legacy on the knowledge and experience of the post-earthquake development of Skopje after the devastating earthquake in 1963.

Its contribution to ROCK project will be in three main areas of expertise:

  • Redevelopment of challenged communities with sustainable and context based post-transitional micro level models of transformation providing insight in the tools of climate change adaptation and urban resilience of the local communities addressed through issues of socially sustainable transformation and innovative approach to sustainable solutions distributed along different scales of urban society;
  • Development and use of new technologies in planning and designing, providing the expertise in the field of ICT and their use in building semantically enriched 3D city models enabling integrated and interactive mapping of urban areas and architecture, integrated project management, energy efficiency in urban context, large scale project organization, sustainable re-use of urban assets at large scale and development of large scale strategies for sustainable urban development and urban resilience;
  • Cultural heritage research, reuse and reconstruction through implementation of contemporary theories and practical knowledge in the challenged cultural heritage areas and buildings providing the methodology for collection of knowledge and creative use of cultural heritage in sustainable urban transformation.

Faculty of Architecture, UKIM is a member of EAAE and has been partner in several EU funded projects and participant is prominent world events and exhibitions (Habitat II, La Biennale di Venezia, etc.). It is an emerging regional educational hub in the field of Architecture with growing network of international academic partners.

The ROCK project at Faculty of Architecture will be led by Prof. Ognen Marina that is the leader of an emerging new generation of academics and is in charge of the management of the EU funded projects providing the facilitation and provision of work and services stipulated by the project goals and objectives, supported by the financial officer at Faculty of Architecture in charge of the financial management.
